ENGLISH TEACHER

as if I could breathe in your poetry
and know what drives your tangible tongue
I close my eyes to imagine this meaningful,
recalling Lolita with each desperate caress
to will the smirk off your face
to have you see past prom dress, angst, supple skin
to wonder, to care for me
as more than a bad metaphor
